Sutton Coldfield Civic Society

Sutton Coldfield Civic Society
REGISTERED WITH THE CIVIC TRUST
The Royal Town of Sutton Coldfield

Since the 1950's the Civic Society has worked in the interests of Sutton Coldfield (particularly the built environment)

OUR AIMS

  • To encourage the conservation of the best of the architectural and physical features of Sutton Coldfield.

  • To encourage the development of the highest quality of new buildings.

  • To ensure that the new roads follow the least disruptive route to urban and rural environments.

BY JOINING THE SOCIETY your opinions will be heard on these important local issues because we have representatives on planning and amenity committees (including Sutton Park).

  • We monitor planning applications and make our views known as appropriate.

  • We are represented on Birmingham's Advisory Committee for Conservation Areas and for Sutton Park.

  • We are proud to be associated with the Friend's of Sutton Park Association in developing the new archeological Interpretation Scheme.

  • With the generous support of the Sutton Coldfield Municipal Charities, we have placed commemorative Blue Plaques in the memory of local celebrities and produced a Blue Plaque Trail guidebook.

  • We have campaigned against destruction of the Green Belt for industrial development and the demolition of good housing stock for intensive apartment-building.

  • We are affilated to the Civic Trust and the West Midland Amenity Societies Association.

  • In the Winter we hold monthly Thursday meetings at The Wylde Green Community Hall, Emscote Drive at 7.45pm and in the Summer we organise outings of interest.
